I could go on but give me a gen2 any day. My 5 speed tranny does just fine thank you and I don't need some dealer to connect his computer to my bike to run diagnostics and I can even balance my throttle bodies at any RPM above idle. My FJR is a gen2 bike (2010) so the ECU has a much smaller memory with fewer data points than does the gen3 bikes so the flash is more precise with the gen3. He then told me why but I can't remember the reason. I asked Ivan if he is going to develop a flash program for the BMW bikes and he said, no. The FJR when in closed loop also runs at 14.7:1 with its narrow band sensor because catalytic converters like it. Big difference between 13.4:1 from 14:7:1 which the bike runs at with a narrow band sensor. ![]() My old oilhead runs perfect at 13.4:1 AFR. Then I just connect my laptop to the LC-2 and program whatever air fuel ratio I want and away she goes. So, I installed a Wideband O2 sensor with an Innovate Motor Sport LC-2 controller so the ECU thinks it sees input from a narrow band sensor. Wish I could do that to the BMW but no luck there. I also think that after the flash the bike no longer sees closed loop anyway so I chucked the O2 sensor. The Flash is worth more than he charges, do yourself a huge favor and send your ECU to Ivan, you will think that Yamaha should have hired Ivan to design the software from the factory. I thought about running with no O2 sensor and it makes sense because Ivan zeros out the O2 sensor data points with the flash so no reason that I can see to leave it connected. I read the details on the site and decided to try the ECU flash, and I am so glad that I chose Ivan because the ECU flash fixed every single issue that I had with the FJR1300. Beyond the normal closed loop lambda control, there isn't any "learning" that takes place that I'm aware of. I'm also fairly certain that the logic in the ECU is fairly simple. Since there are no screw-in ports in the stock headers for a CO meter that isn't possible. Even if they did have the jumpers in the only way to adjust them to the bike would be to somehow monitor the CO on each individual cylinder while adjusting the settings. People that have done the Barbarian Jumper have shown that almost every US ECU has the same default CO settings and that is what the new replacement ECUs are coming loaded with. It is my understanding that when they install the ECU it is plug and play.
